born in the high north of germany and now a berlin resident, ralf schmidt aka aera first appeared on the electronic music map when he established his own aleph music label back in 2010. with only a handful of releases, aera was able to lay out his very own musically topography on the cutting edges between house, psychedelia and breakbeats. this colourful mix culminated on his debut album ãoffseason travellerÓ in 2013, resonating the past forty years of electronic music, which brought him the attention of a wider audience as well as fellow djs and producers. so it was a logical consequence that his talent also attracted other labels and lead to widely praised releases on innervisions, maeve or john talabotÕs hivern discs. with these, aeraÕs sound bloomed further into bubbly acid and trancey territorries and his fine reputation as a singular producer, travelling dj and remixer flourished. with ãthe sound pathÓ aera continues his musical travels and permanent vacation is gladly hitchhiking on that ride. his second album is the most coherent and definitely most personal work to date. here, he has perfected his sound even further - adding nuances from the meadows of new age, kraut cliffs and high-flying kites of ambient. complete with the cinematic and nature-esque qualities of ralfÕs music, it will draw you in deeply through a great variety of landscapes before your inner eye. however, youÕll never lose track, because this path is beautifully illuminated.

migration cinema is a new moniker of the sonic practitioner and composer elas merino. grisaille, his release for e/c, adopts a varied approach to the pattern of emergence within merinoÕs work. these seven recordings present not only electronic, but mostly instrumental trajectories, whose densities are unfolded through a huge collection of music performers. migration cinema creates a situation for the musicians in which they navigate a resonant and responsive compositional space, while the space itself is treated as a plastic medium. * grisaille suggests an unconventional view of chamber and instrumental contemporary music from a culture alien in both space and time, heard through the filter or sieve of iannis xenakisÕ architectural and physical approach to sound. alternating between opacity and translucency, monochrome and colour, grisaille conjures a spectral palette reminiscent of fredrich cerha, but with an approach to instrumental hybridisation more reminiscent of the electroacoustic worlds of ana maria avram and iancu dumitrescu. * grisaille was written, recorded, and produced by elas merino between 2013 and 2016 in spain and england, and includes across its seven tracks more than 24 performers and a student choir. all the instrumentation has been written, scored and orchestrated through computer music methodologies such as algorithmic and generative systems. grisaille swims into hybrid spaces from acoustic reverberations captured by the artist itself at notre dame (paris, france), basilica di sant eustachio, (rome, italy), and eglise st. laurent, (marseilles, france).

hot off the heels of the beautiful obsolete machines lp released this month, radiuss cassette demo restoration project returns to form with the interpolation tapes series. the original source tapes had aged, warped and degraded and as a result we ve preserved the best segments, sampled and reprocessed with a vintage prophet 2000 sampler, studio 440 and various linn samplers to add depth and range to the original source material. we ve spent nearly an entire year restoring and interpolating over 100 hours of music, processing sound and redesigning the blueprints of this long forgotten project. every track was originally recorded down to an old tascam 688, an 8 track cassette recorder purchased and abused since 1992 and to our ears still sounds quite impressive even by modern standards. we ve had nearly every component replaced and re-calibrated to bring this obsolete machine back to life. it s been a truly nostalgic experience re-visiting and re-arranging these masters, regardless of the time passed, there s so much depth in sound design, raw emotions and when considering the limitations of hardware in the era these were recorded, they ve truly aged like a fine wine. we hope you enjoy this magical time in music, as we are very inspired by all that was happening in those years, theres undeniably something in the air, a mystifying energy, long may it live on.

this compilation spanning a period of 37 years features burnt friedmanÕs releases and edits thereof from vinyl-only labels (latency (fr), marionette (ca), dekmantel (nl) amongst others) plus 4 hitherto unreleased tracks, making them available on digital formats. friedmanÕs music from 1980 to 2017 covers a broad spectrum of played and programmed rhythmic styles that traverse not only club music from techno, electro and dub, but, above all, trace friedmanÕs own artistic development. a trajectory that owes a lot to his long-standing collaboration with can drummer jaki liebezeit, who died at the age of 79 in 2017. like liebezeit, friedman already explored even and uneven rhythms back in the late 1980s. this selection of 17 tracks documents this pursuit while bringing rough or discarded tracks to light, which did not fit onto any album or were intended for the nonplace label. the compilation runs the entire gamut of his work on percussion, keyboard, samplers and toys of all kinds using various production methods (tape, atari, midi, sampler, hard disk recording, digital audio tape). studio work (instant-composition, programming and recording) underwent major technological changes and revolutions in the 1980s and 1990s, but friedmanÕs distinctive signature style prevails throughout. surprisingly danceable tracks, interrupted by alien atmospheric periods, defy any genre.

im fluss der neun stcke lst sich der komponist auf und macht musik in ihrer ureigensten dynamik erfahrbar. man wird zeuge davon, wie sich nhe und intimitt zu weite und gewalt wandeln, sowie schnheit in alledem zu finden ist - vor allem aber im vergehen. konsequent entwickelt strom dabei verschiedenste formwelten, erscheint neblig gefhrlich, dann wieder ganz direkt, fast verspielt, bis hin zum erstarren vor der eigenen gr§e. dabei wurden fr strom keine pointen erdacht und keinerlei ma§ genommen. stattdessen wirkt es so, als ob martin kohlstedt es geschafft htte, der intuition ein monument zu bauen. dabei sind unabnderliche denkmler gar nicht kohlstedts spezialitt, ganz im gegenteil. bekannt geworden ist der thringer vor allem fr die energie und unberechenbarkeit seiner konzerte. nach zwei solo-piano alben legte er schablonen fr das instrument ab und entwickelte seine eigene selbstverstndlichkeit, elektronik und effekte so zu spielen, als seien sie nur weitere tasten auf der schwarzwei§en klaviatur. strom ist martin kohlstedts drittes studioalbum und ebenso ein destillat dieser entwicklung wie auch ein blick in die zukunft: bevor der komponist auf sein publikum trifft, prallt er in diesem ersten aller rume mit sich selbst zusammen. inszenierung ist hier fehl am platz. sound und struktur treten hinter den wunsch, mit der musik andere orte zu erreichen. man hrt dem nach - seinen hnden - die all die arbeit verrichten, feinfhlig und gr§enwahnsinnig zugleich. und bleibt doch ganz bei sich, wie auf seinen konzerten. mehr braucht man ber martin kohlstedt nicht zu wissen.
